In the late 1800s, Nong Chik began hosting Thursday night food distributions at his residence in Bukit Tunggal, offering meals to all. After his passing in 1906, his nephew and son-in-law, Syed Abdul Rahman Bin Taha Alsagoff, who also served as the third wakaf trustee, continued this noble practice at his own home in Nassim Road until the outbreak of World War II.
Post-war, this act of giving was revived and relocated to Masjid Hajjah Fatimah, where meals were cooked, served, and cleaned up by the jemaah every Thursday night. This tradition is a reflection of Nong Chik’s spirit of altruism, preserved across generations.
As the final resting place of Nong Chik, Masjid Hajjah Fatimah now seeks to revive his legacy by launching “Friday Food, Forward”, a Friday food sponsorship campaign feeding the larger Jumaat congregation while simultaneously supporting the masjid’s fundraising efforts.
